The Peruvian cultures of the Andes Mountains were masters of the growing environment. Farmers took unforgiving mountainsides and turned them into fertile, arable land; a technique that is still in use a thousand years later. These slopes, called Andenes, helped farmers grow and harvest crops in areas that had poor growing characteristics. They required strict engineering and design principles and were a testament to people’s hard work and dedication. These civilizations were aware that agriculture is the source of life and that it guarantees society’s stability.
